Short Film: Giant Robots Dominate Humanity in ‘Panic Attack!’
Brutal as Hell — panicattack by Marc Patterson Quiet Earth said this would be the coolest thing you’d see today. Guess what? They’re absolutely correct. Panic Attack! (Ataque de Pánico!) is a monster of a short film from Uruguay that blew me away with its incredible set up and masterful execution, despite a total runtime of less than five minutes. The film is directed and animated by Fede Alvarez, a commercial director by trade.  I’m not going to delve into plot or anything of that nature. The film is too short to do so. Just watch it below and for fucks sake, leave your comments.

Raimi Touting New Talent from... Uruguay?
Icons of Fright News and Updates — So here's how it goes, according to Slash Film.  Uruguay's own 30 year old Federico Alvarez makes a short called Panic Attack and plugs it up on Youtube.  Sam Raimi is impressed by what Alvarez was able to do with a computer and a low budget (and probably a shaky-cam).  Through his company Ghost House Raimi, according to reports, puts up a budget of $30-40 million for Alvarez to make a full-scale feature film.  Alvarez and his girlfriend/co-writer are now living in L.A. rent-free, and have nice, shiny new cars.  And $1 million dollars funding just to write the script.  Sounds great, right?  Raimi, a former low ...

Shock Till You Drop — The below video, entitled Panic Attack , has made the rounds over the last month. It's an impressive bit of work from Uruguyan director Federico Alvarez who demonstrates a unique view of a city under attack by a robotic menace. Cool stuff, needless to say and worth spreading around the web. This weekend, buzz about Alvarez has intensified as he has signed a blind contract with Sam Raimi and Ghost House Pictures. Alvarez tells El Pais that during a recent jaunt to Los Angeles he struck a pretty awesome deal in which he will be granted a million to develop a feature-length script (again, featuring giant robot mayhem) that will pave the way to a film in the $30-40 ...

Cinema Suicide — Looks like haunted house movies are the new zombie movie. If you have a single camera and not much money, a smart script and an eye for tension is the way to go. You can make a good movie with no money. So here’s the Uruguayan production, La Casa Muda, from director Gustavo Hernandez to up the ante and considering the amazing success of Paranormal Activity and it’s status as the most profitable movie of all time it should come as no surprise that ...
