Kudos to reader 'HT' for catching this! In a paparazzi video featuring Milla Jovovich out on the town, the actress says, "We're going to start shooting at the end of the year." When asked what she merely replies, "Number four!" implying the next chapter in the Resident Evil franchise. Sony would need to begin lensing on Resident Evil: Afterlife if they hope to make the September 17, 2010 release date we announced yesterday .

Resident Evil: Extinction left the door open -- wide open -- for a sequel even though that powers-that-be at the time said it would be the last entry in the film franchise. Well, I guess you just can't keep a good ghoul down.
Shock Till You Drop reported on a rumor that has been confirmed that a fourth film tentatively being called Resident Evil: Afterlife is in the works and that Sony is looking to get it into theaters by September 17, 2010.
